Over the decades, even as our clientele has spread, we’ve always been locally based in Maryland. When Boyd W. Hovermill started his company in 1948, it was in Baltimore City. The company later relocated to Ellicott City and then to Laurel. Since 1999, we’ve been back in Baltimore at our current location.
In the flooring industry, we’re known for our longevity and for multi-generations of employee owners. In 1999, John Powell took over as Hovermill’s 4th president, and Gary Heath assumed the role of vice president. John and Gary are assisted by the entire management team to support the company’s expanding base of clients and to ensure that all projects are completed on time and on budget.
Journeyman Certified Mechanics
Our mechanics are among the best in the industry. They have all been trained and certified as a Journeyman, and they renew their certifications to stay up-to-date. It is our own employees who do the work, not subcontractors, so we are able to guarantee reliable results. We follow the installation protocol recommended by the manufacturers, using their products and adhesives for the best, long-lasting results.
We are affiliated with the floor union Local 251. Our staff stay on top of industry advancements by partnering with INSTALL Metropolitan Atlantic Region. This partnership provides unlimited access to state-of-the-art training, manufacturer consultation, and an additional pool of qualified installers when needed.
INSTALL Metro Atlantic is the region’s alliance of flooring mills, manufacturers, and contractors—all working together to raise the bar of installation standards. The graduates from this exclusive program have received hands-on training with a full spectrum of floor covering materials.
INSTALL-certified mechanics are equipped in all aspects of proper flooring preparation and installation, including emerging trends and green building requirements. These superior flooring installers have a productive work ethic, unmatched skills, and proven experience.
